We all know that cars and vans don't make any sense for many shorter journeys but let's delve deeper into this.
I was using the works van far too much for travel to the store, home callouts for bike repairs and for collections of parts for the shop, such as bolts and fittings from Delaneys hardware shop (old skool service, excellent) and for random bearings. The diesel cost was really adding up, it seemed I was hardly doing any miles but still going to the fuel station every week, £40 a go. So.....
Going places motorists can only dream of.... And reducing journey times substantially during the rush hour, 20 mins in the van but only 6 mins by bike. The Tenways is great for the job, it's a relatively flat journey so the single speed isn't a problem.
My journey to the store takes me down pedestrianised Chestergate, home to a range of local independent businesses. Out of town retail and Amazon is sadly ripping the heart out of town centre Macclesfield.
A quick stop at my favourite coffee shop, just so much better than the big ticket coffee chains. And Flour Water Salt's pastries and bread are amazing. A quick in and out .. no pesky parking issues to have to deal with
I've blinged my bike up with some fancy Supacaz metal bar end plugs, a bit of personalisation goes a long way. And fitted some bar ends for longer journeys out of town and to haul on the bars on some of the more brutal climbs in the Peak District.
